Product Photography
Product photography is a branch of commercial photography which is about accurately but attractively representing a product. Product photography is generally used for advertisements in magazines, brochures or online sales.
Purpose
-
Showcase products: Product photography can help customers visualize what the product looks like and how it feels.
-
Attract customers: Product photography helps customers learn about a product's features, benefits, and details.
-
Promote products: Product photography can help products stand out and sell more.
Techniques
-
Lighting: Natural or artificial light can define the look and feel of an image.
-
Composition: The placement of the product and other elements in the frame can create a strong visual impact.
-
Background: Simple backgrounds like white, gray, a single colour or textured backdrops can help the product stand out.
-
Camera settings: Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO can all contribute to the final image. (What do you want blurred, what do you want in focus?)
-
Viewpoint: Eye-level, high, or low shots can all be used to capture a product.
Examples
-
Product-only images: These images are often taken against a white background to capture the product's details.
-
Lifestyle shots: These images show the product in real-world scenarios.
-
Dark background images: These images often feature a black background and moody lighting.
